Water Break is a solo performance combining hydrologlic shibari, aerobic propulsion, fake body suspension and polyrhythmic dance beats. Tackling perspectives from Mark Greif's Against Everything and imagery from the movie Perfect, a water cooler of blood is drained around the body from the tube and curtains are pulled from shins to reveal the horrors of queer American athletic desperation: Slo-mo! Go-Go! Homo! Oh no!
Water Break was developed in part through a creative residency produced by Urbana Dance Company.
Blaze Ferrer is an interdisciplinary performer and choreographer interested in the mainstreaming of queerness within the American capitalist hegemony. Blaze makes experiences that express the vibrancy and limits of embodiment through post-Judson choreographic scores and the incorporation of consumerist cultural iconography. As a lead artist, Blaze has made work for Pioneers Go East, Pageant, The Collapsable Hole, Prelude Festival, The Brick Theater, The Exponential Festival, Movement Research@Judson Church, Sundays on Broadway,…
